Broken Friendships Poems

Human beings simultaneously thrive and fail in our relationships to others. Down through history there is a rich tradition of capturing our deepest feelings through poetry. A poem is the act of a human heart singing of love, pain, life or death. Poetry truly provides a glimpse into our hearts. Of all the pains we endure in our lives, the pain of a broken friendship can hurt us the most.

Relationships and friendships come and go in our lives. We love the friends that we have been blessed with. Anytime a friendship is broken or fades away our lives are impacted. Broken friendship poems are often written on the heels of hurtful circumstances. Sometimes broken friendships are caused by others; sometimes we cause the break in a friendship ourselves. Regardless of how a friendship is severed, it is always painful.

If you live for any length of time in this world, you will undoubtedly suffer the loss of a broken friendship. Broken friendship poems resonate with us all, as we all know just how deeply painful it is to lose a friend. Perhaps one of the saddest aspects of a friendship that has faded away is the feeling of abandonment and loneliness that accompany these bitter times. In a poem titled Broken Friendships, Bronwyn P. writes:

“Now I glance across
At you from outside
Shaded eyes dry with tears
New friends, new life.”

In a brief section from this broken friendship poem, Bronwyn conveys the hurt that comes from being isolated from someone that we love. When a friendship is broken, we do not instantly stop loving that person. Just because the communion with a friend has been broken, does not mean that we no longer care. On the contrary, many times our feelings for our former friends are magnified by our sadness.

Broken friendship poems can be cathartic in helping to cope with the loss of a treasured friendship. While there are few things that can make these situations easier, taking time to write some broken friendship poems, can help to ease the burden a bit. Keeping our feelings bottled up is not a healthy way of coping with loss. Writing down our feelings in poetry can be a very welcomed release to our negative thoughts and feelings.

Nothing in this world is exempt from change. Our friendships will change over the years. Some of them will flourish and grow and some will wither or be broken. Broken friendship poems capture the bittersweet memories and thoughts that we hold about those who have been so close to us. While none of us ever cherishes the thought of losing a friend, if we should have to go through it, reading some poignant broken friendship poems can offer solace in the most difficult times.
